Today is World Cat Day, also known as International Day of the Cat. I’m glad we have a day where everyone around the world can celebrate how wonderful we are.
The International Federation for Animal Health Europe estimates that there are 220 million domestic cats in the world. Here’s a table of the top 10 countries with cats (from mapsoftheworld.com) These numbers may not be entirely accurate - they’re here just for fun. Canada doesn’t make their list, but a google search shows there are 79 million cats in Canada, but maybe that includes feral cats. In any case, there sure are a lot of cat lovers out there.
| Country | Number of Cats |
| USA | 76,430,000 |
| China | 53,100,000 |
| Russia | 12,700,000 |
| Brazil | 12,466,000 |
| France | 9,600,000 |
| Italy | 9,400,000 |
| United Kingdom | 7,700,000 |
| Ukraine | 7,350,000 |
| Japan | 7,300,000 |
| Germany | 7,700,000 |
I hope you got some extra snuggles today for World Cat Day. I did. If your human didn’t know it was World Cat Day, that’s ok. I think every day should be World Cat Day so snuggles can be given each and every day!

Awww… Canada didn’t make it into the top ten. MOUSES!
Might have to take those numbers with a grain of salt. A quick google search said there are 79 million pet cats in Canada. But maybe that includes feral cats.
HAPPY HAPPY WORLD CAT DAY!
One thing I did NOT get on World Cat Day were treats - ants invaded the treat cabinet and swarmed them!
Oh no! Ants are terrible. I hope your housekeeper got rid of all the little buggers.
I enjoyed a nice cold bowl of goat’s milk on World Cat’s Day. I have trained my human well and plan to demand it everyday as like mew said- every day should be World Cat Day. In addition, everyday should be Humans Serve Their Cats Whatever and Whenever They Wish Day too!
I hope your World Cat Day was purrfect…and continues every day!
